Whilst many acts have tried to create a hybrid of blues and rock, no one did it quite as well as Canned Heat. Formed in
Los Angeles in 1965 and taking their name from a song by Tommy Johnson, Canned Heat Blues, the group scored their first
hit single in 1968 with On The Road Again. By then, however, Canned Heat were very much part of the movement that
regarded single success as largely unimportant when compared to album and live success. Undoubtedly one of the
highlights of the Woodstock Festival, Canned Heat s reputation as a live act has endured for more than thirty years or
so, irrespective of the line-up.
